Customs Clearance Guide | Key Compliance Points for Returned Exported Goods 📝
  • Release Time: 2026/09/14

Today, we share the practical guidelines for handling the import return of already exported goods. In daily operations, many goods exported may require import return procedures due to packaging not meeting the requirements of the destination port customer. There are three key points to focus on in practice.

The first step is preparing the supporting documentation for the return shipment, which involves organizing and providing the email correspondence with foreign clients to clearly substantiate the genuine reasons for the return, serving as the core basis for customs review of the return shipment.

Second, clarify the applicable business scenarios, which are limited to goods with issues in retail outer packaging, allowing compliant application for import return. This scenario is also recognized by customs as a routine return circumstance.

Finally, there are the standard requirements for customs declaration. When handling the return import declaration, it is necessary to accurately link the corresponding original export customs declaration number in the import declaration form to ensure traceable data for each transaction. Additionally, proof of tax payment or refund must be provided to meet the customs documentation review standards for return clearance.
