"It economy" fuels new momentum in foreign trade, with Songjiang pet food accelerating its "fan base" overseas
  • Release Time: 2026/08/27

On August 8, the "International Cat Day," a batch of high-quality cat food produced in Shanghai's Songjiang District was shipped to Southeast Asia under the supervision of the Songjiang Customs under the Shanghai Customs. Amid the ongoing surge in the global "pet economy" and rapid growth in pet food exports, Songjiang's pet food industry is accelerating its expansion into overseas markets, "winning over" global consumers. In the first six months of this year, Songjiang District's pet food exports reached 75.379 million yuan, a 2.4-fold increase year-on-year.

With the explosive growth of the global pet consumption market, the standards for pet food in overseas markets are also continuously rising. To help local enterprises seize development opportunities, Songjiang Customs has stepped up its services, precisely aligning with international trade rules, and focusing on key export markets such as Indonesia, Vietnam, and Malaysia. By meticulously reviewing access requirements and inspection and quarantine regulations, and through "customized" services like policy briefings and on-site guidance, the customs authority assists enterprises in quickly adapting to overseas regulations.

"The high technical barriers and rapidly evolving standards in the overseas pet food market were once major challenges for us in securing international orders," said the foreign trade director of Shanghai Fobei Pet Products Co., Ltd. "Fortunately, the customs authorities provided timely support by tailoring compliance guidance plans specifically for us, giving us greater confidence in expanding our presence in overseas markets."

To facilitate the export of pet food, Songjiang Customs has established an export green channel, implementing pre-scheduled inspections and priority clearance. Combined with the "cloud issuance" of inspection and quarantine certificates, this system enables enterprises to obtain certificates instantly without in-person visits, reducing operational and time costs. While improving clearance efficiency, the customs strictly enforces safety risk monitoring, conducting targeted sampling for safety and hygiene indicators. This helps enterprises enhance the full-process quality control and traceability system for pet food, ensuring product safety.
